How the Nigerian JAMB Aggregate Estimate Works
JAMB UTME is one of the most important numbers Nigerian candidates use when planning university applications. A score by itself is not the whole admission picture because institutions can combine UTME performance with O’Level results, post-UTME screening, subject combinations, catchment policies, and programme requirements. This calculator provides a simple way to inspect the combined score described in the formula above before you compare your result with official guidance from a university.
To use the calculator, enter the UTME score printed on your result. The valid range is 0 to 400. Then select the five O’Level grades you want to include. The grade scale supported here is A1, B2, B3, C4, C5, and C6. A1 contributes 4.0 points, B2 contributes 3.6, B3 contributes 3.2, C4 contributes 2.8, C5 contributes 2.4, and C6 contributes 2.0. The five selected grades can therefore contribute up to 20 points.
The formula and an example
The JAMB part is calculated by dividing the UTME score by 8. A score of 280 therefore contributes 35 points. If the five O’Level grades are A1, B2, B3, C4, and C5, their points are 4.0 + 3.6 + 3.2 + 2.8 + 2.4, which equals 16.0. The combined estimate is 51.0 under this formula. The result is displayed with two decimal places so small differences are easy to compare.
The brief for this tool describes the final number as a percentage out of 100, but the supplied formula and point scale produce a maximum of 70 points: 50 from UTME and 20 from O’Level grades. Use official university requirements
UNILAG, the University of Ibadan, OAU, and other Nigerian universities may publish different screening methods for different sessions and courses. Medicine, Law, Engineering, and competitive professional programmes often have higher requirements than broad-entry programmes. Check the current JAMB subject combination, minimum UTME score, O’Level credit requirements, post-UTME process, and any departmental cut-off information on the official institution website. A calculator cannot guarantee admission, and an estimate should never replace a current admission bulletin.
Common mistakes to avoid
Use the exact grades on your result rather than an expected grade. Do not enter a blank subject as zero because an unselected grade is not the same as C6. Confirm that the five grades are the subjects relevant to the course, not simply the five highest grades from an unrelated combination. If you are comparing scenarios, change only one grade or score at a time and record the result. Keep your official result, registration details, and school-specific instructions available when making an application.

What if my O’Level grade is below C6?

Why does the maximum show 70 rather than 100?
The supplied formula is UTME divided by 8 plus five grades worth up to 20 points. That arithmetic has a maximum of 70; it is not silently converted to another scale.
