How the KCSE tier checker works

This Kenya KCSE tool is designed for the first stage of academic planning. Instead of asking a student to remember several education pathways, it maps the entered mean grade to a broad tier: degree placement planning, diploma programmes, craft certificate programmes, or artisan certificate programmes. The grade list follows the familiar KCSE sequence from A through E and includes plus and minus bands.

For this planning model, C+ through A are shown as the degree-placement tier. That includes the commonly referenced minimum mean-grade level for many university degree routes, but it does not mean every course or every university will accept every C+ result. Subject clusters, cluster points, programme demand, application choices, and the current KUCCPS process still matter. A C+ student may meet a general threshold but remain below the competitive level for a particular programme.

Diploma and technical pathways

Grades C through C- are mapped to a diploma planning tier in this tool. A diploma can be a direct career qualification, a route into technical work, or a progression path to higher study. For degree applications, check the programme’s cluster subjects and not only the overall mean grade.
