How the BECE Aggregate Calculator Works
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) aggregate is used when estimating a learner’s Senior High School placement result. This calculator converts the selected BECE grades into their matching points, adds all four core subjects, and then adds the two strongest optional subject results. The completed score is presented on a 6 to 54 scale. Since Grade 1 is the highest result and receives 1 point, a lower total is generally more favourable.
BECE Grade-to-Point Mapping
The calculator follows the requested direct mapping: Grade 1 contributes 1 point, Grade 2 contributes 2, and so on through Grade 9, which contributes 9 points. These values are intentionally simple so you can see how every selection affects the total. The result is an aggregate score, not a percentage, class position, or GPA. Keep your original result slip available when confirming your entries.
Four Core Subjects
English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies are all required in this calculation. Unlike the WASSCE tool, none of these four core subjects is excluded or swapped for another core result. The calculator waits until all four grades are selected before showing a complete total. This prevents a partially entered record from looking like a final placement estimate.
Best Two Optional Subjects
Use the three optional-subject dropdowns to enter two or three results. The calculator sorts the numeric values and keeps the two smallest point values, which represent the best two grades. The third optional result is a backup: if it is better than one of the first two, it replaces the weaker result automatically. At least two optional selections are needed for a complete aggregate.
Example Calculation
Imagine a learner has Grade 2 in English Language, Grade 3 in Mathematics, Grade 1 in Integrated Science, and Grade 4 in Social Studies. The four core subjects contribute 2 + 3 + 1 + 4 = 10 points. If the optional grades are Grade 2, Grade 5, and Grade 7, the best two are Grade 2 and Grade 5, contributing 7 points. The estimated BECE aggregate is 10 + 7 = 17.

Why does a lower score help?
Grade 1 is worth 1 point and Grade 9 is worth 9 points. Stronger grades therefore produce fewer total points.
