Understanding KCSE points and KUCCPS planning

Kenyan KCSE candidates often compare their grades with degree requirements, cluster information, and placement options. This calculator is a simple seven-subject planning aid. It converts the grades you enter into the point mapping supplied for this page and adds the seven values. The result can reach 84 points when all seven subjects are A grades. The page also translates the total into an estimated mean grade band so the number is easier to discuss with a parent, teacher, or career adviser.

The point mapping is A equals 12, A- equals 11, B+ equals 10, B equals 9, B- equals 8, C+ equals 7, C equals 6, C- equals 5, D+ equals 4, D equals 3, D- equals 2, and E equals 1. The best possible total for seven subjects is therefore 12 multiplied by 7, or 84. A lower grade contributes fewer points. Select every grade rather than leaving a subject blank; the calculator rejects incomplete selections so an empty field cannot be mistaken for a real grade.

Mean grade estimate

The overall grade band shown here uses the aggregate thresholds requested in the brief: totals of 81 or more display A, 74 to 80 display A-, 67 to 73 display B+, 60 to 66 display B, 53 to 59 display B-, 46 to 52 display C+, 39 to 45 display C, 32 to 38 display C-, 25 to 31 display D+, 18 to 24 display D, 11 to 17 display D-, and totals below 11 display E. This is an estimate for the seven entered grades and should not be confused with the complete official KCSE mean-grade process.

KUCCPS and cluster requirements

KUCCPS degree placement can involve programme subject clusters, minimum grades, weighted cluster points, competition, and the choices submitted by a candidate. A strong total does not automatically make every programme available. Medicine, engineering, education, business, and other degrees can require different subject combinations. Before selecting a course, review the latest official programme requirements and confirm that your Mathematics, language, sciences, or other relevant subjects meet the minimum grade.
